Torn From Diary

he tried to stride

down    alley

but age infirmed

caught his

gait    the knees

hunched him

sacklike

   bundled out

into the open

stars spotted deep

blue

the beach invited

    sand stippled

his toes     left

his identity

behind

shuffled past

midnight bathers

and walked

straight    the sea
